Wednesday, September 01, 2004Danger HaikuI work (as I lined out below) in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation facility on an Army base in Iraq. The one on FOB Danger, to be exact. On Tuesday nights, we have Poetry Night in the Sports Bar (non-alcoholic drinks only). We have a small group of soldiers that take their poetry very seriously. I have never actively participated, but .... I noticed no one ever brought in any haiku. So, I researched the form, and wrote a few. Tell me if I should take these to the next poetry night. MWR Danger Haiku Work Orders Go, fill out request. Submit again and again... Work is never done. Sodas Coke, Doctor Pepper! Only thirty-five cents or three-for-a-dollar. Port-A-Johns No toilet paper. Says Serviced by KBR It's hot and smells bad Work Orders II Show up at building Ignore the work request form -- Go break something else. Hooch Little bittey space Never any privacy -- Home away from Home Gatorade Drink every day -- Many different flavors They all taste the same
Comments:
All of those, except for the one about sodas, are born out of experiences here.

The soda one was my test to try out the form. As you might guess from the haiku, part of my job as the assistant manager of one of the major facilities on post is to deal with the people that do repairs and maintenance. I was having a particularly frustrating time with those guys when I wrote these. << Home
